Manager II, Software Engineering - Web Experience

About the role: Samsara is looking for an experienced and visionary Engineering Manager II to lead our web development team. This person will be responsible for driving innovation and overseeing the development of Samsara’s web experience, used by thousands of customers worldwide. As an EM, you will stay close to customer needs, partnering with our Product and Design teams to develop the next generation of our product. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing a technical strategy that ensures we can scale to accommodate our rapid growth. You’ll have an opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial environment and also support a high-scale platform team with internal and external customers. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US except the San Francisco Bay Metro Area, NYC Metro Area, and Washington, D.C. Metro Area. In this role, you will: Develop and execute the engineering strategy to make Samsara’s products better together, delivering high-quality products that exceed customer expectations. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of high-performing engineers across multiple locations, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment. Work closely with Product, UX/UI Design, and AI teams to develop features, define requirements, and optimize user experiences on our Web Experiences. Guide the team in architecting scalable and maintainable solutions, leveraging the latest technologies and best practices in web development. Ensure features meet high standards of reliability, performance, and security, employing automated testing and monitoring systems. Oversee the development lifecycle, from planning through deployment, using Agile methodologies to ensure timely and efficient delivery of product releases. Champion new technologies, tools, and processes to enhance the capabilities of the web development teams. Hire, develop and lead an inclusive, engaged, and high performing team. Minimum requirements for the role: 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years leading engineering teams. 5+ years of relevant technical experience working with a team to develop software in a production environment (moved from ideal cdd) A track record of building and leading high-performing software teams A customer-focused mindset and strong product sense Willingness to dive deep and solve challenging technical problems Experience with best practices around testing, monitoring, and SLAs to ensure high product quality in large-scale distributed web services (moved from ideal cdd) Interest in continually improving team processes, backed by a strong experience on efficient, self-directed teams An ideal candidate also has: Leadership Skills: Proven ability to build and scale diverse engineering teams, and a track record of delivering successful, large-scale web applications in a fast-paced, agile environment. Technical mastery in Go, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, C/C++, or other similar languages Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and cross-functional collaboration skills, with ability to drive decisions across teams. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
